Over the past decade, upper gastrointestinal (GI) endoscopy procedures in the U.S. have steadily increased – from 6.1 million in 2013 to 7.5 million in 2019. Studies are finding that an aging population with higher rates of reflux, ulcers, Barrett’s and gastric cancers are driving the demand for these essential procedures.
At Fujifilm, we know firsthand that leading-edge endoscopy solutions are critically important for GI endoscopy procedures, as it directly impacts diagnostic accuracy, procedural safety, efficiency, and patient outcomes. Paving the way for non-invasive, single-procedure, and potentially curative resection of advanced lesions, Fujifilm has worked alongside leading physicians to develop next generation gastroscopes to change the way upper GI procedures can be performed.
Launched this year, our EG-840T treatment gastroscope and the EG-840TP slim treatment gastroscope both deliver a unique set of specifications designed to support emerging procedural techniques in the treatment of upper GI conditions while also delivering exceptional performance for routine procedures. Leading endoscopists from renowned facilities – including Dr. Phillip Ge, Associate Professor, Department of Gastroenterology Hepatology & Nutrition, University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center – are blown away by the gastroscopes high-quality imaging, superior retroflexion, and the ability to work in narrow spaces.
Dr. Ge recently shared insights from his first clinical experiences with the new 800 Series therapeutic gastroscopes through cases performed as part of MD Anderson’s Sawyer Live Endoscopy course. Dr. Ge explained that the scopes’ slim design, large 3.2 mm channel that allows for increased suction, as well as the scope’s latest CMOS image sensor technology, are some key features that were influential in making his procedures a success.
But in addition to those unique features, what Dr. Ge and his team were really blown away by was the gastroscopes’ phenomenal retroflexion. During his recent presentation to a large audience at an industry trade show, he explains that the 210° up-angulation with short bending radius and 160° down-angulation is practically unheard of among current endoscopes and truly opens the doors to reliably and consistently reach, see, and perform procedures in challenging areas like the cardia, fundus, and GE Junction. The excellent maneuverability of the scopes empowers gastroenterologists to see more of the patient in those difficult to reach areas without putting them in uncomfortable positions.
“The future is now. Fujifilm’s 840T and 840TP gastroscopes are going to be game changing in the world of therapeutic endoscopy and third space endoscopy because of its maneuverability and therapeutic size channel.”
MD Anderson’s goal to ‘make cancer history’ aligns with Fujifilm’s commitment to bring next-generation devices and gastroscopes to market to enhance detection, treatment and accessibility to care. At Fujifilm, we know that attention to the small but important details empower physicians to push boundaries during therapeutic procedures like never before.
