It could be your mother, sister, spouse, or daughter. The fact is, 1 in 8 women in the U.S. will get diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime. But we don’t need to lose our loved ones to the disease. Saving lives begins with education.
That’s one of the core reasons why Fujifilm and Beekley Medical teamed up to host its 2nd Annual Breast Imaging Education Summit on Sept. 20th and 21st at Fujifilm’s Valhalla, NY headquarters. Designed specifically for radiologic technologists specializing in breast imaging, the event was all about learning, collaboration, and professional growth. The goal was to provide professionals on the frontlines of women’s healthcare with the latest information about imaging technologies and screening best practices so they can help more women beat the odds of breast cancer.
More than 10 Presentations from Prestigious Leaders in Breast Imaging
Held just ahead of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the event drew more than 40 attendees and was an overwhelming success. The technologists in attendance were clearly excited to hear more than 10 compelling presentations from experts in the women’s health space. There was also ample time for questions, discussion, and a dynamic exchange of knowledge.
The insightful presentations were well received and covered a wide range of topics. For example, leaders in the breast imaging space presented on diverse subjects like the importance of standardized positioning, breast density communication and reporting, CEM vs. breast MRI, breast imaging workflow, and understanding the patient’s journey after breast cancer diagnosis.
Presenters included several radiologists from renowned institutions like MD Anderson Cancer Center and University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, to name just a few. Additional speakers included a retired breast surgeon, a radiologic technologist, a professor of radiology, and others.
Additionally, representatives from both Fujifilm and Beekley Medical made presentations. Fujifilm’s Anne Hixon, MRT (R), Product Manager for Women’s Health and Medical Imaging, discussed “New Technologies in Breast Imaging.” Richard Foster, director of training at Beekley Medical gave a talk on the “Impact of Receptor Plate Covers on Tissue Acquisition, Skin Tears, and Patient Satisfaction.”
Hands-on Demos
A major highlight of the event was when technologists got a chance to work directly with Fujifilm’s imaging technology. Attendees experienced an instructional live, hands-on breast positioning workshop demonstration with Fujifilm’s ASPIRE Cristalle 3D mammography system and Beekley Medical’s Bella Blankets® Protective Coverlets. Many technologists commented on the value of the demo, noting that positioning was key to getting the right images right away!
Partnering to Beat Breast Cancer
Fujifilm and Beekley Medical share the same mission—to improve women’s health by improving access to breast health education and mammography screening services for every woman who needs it. That’s why we joined forces on this inspiring educational event.
Every day, technologists are in the trenches helping to combat breast cancer. According to the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists, some 50,000+ technologists in the U.S. are certified in mammography. Breast cancer mortality decreased by 40% in the U.S. since 1990 thanks, in large part, to the increased use of mammography—and to the radiologic techs who perform those exams. Fujifilm is committed to educational initiatives that support these important professionals, and we applaud their invaluable contribution to women’s health and the fight against breast cancer.
For technologists who could not attend the event, a recorded webinar of key topics addressed during the second annual Breast Imaging Education Summit will be available virtually on Nov. 8th at 8:00am – 2:30 pm to celebrate National Radiologic Technology Week. Participating technologists will earn 6.0 CEU credits. If you are a technologist (radiologist) and missed our in-person event and would like to register for the webinar in November, click here.
