Today we know that gram-negative bacteria can cause a variety of illnesses. These bacteria contain molecules called endotoxins in their cell walls. Even in the absence of living bacteria, residual endotoxins can be deadly when they contaminate pharmaceuticals or medical devices. Contact with endotoxins can trigger fever or even sepsis in patients.

Our PYROSTAR™ line of products including reagents, instruments and accessories, from our Limulus Amebocyte Lysate (LAL) Division are utilized by leading companies to detect bacterial endotoxins in different environments.

To avoid endotoxin contamination, companies utilize the LAL assay. The LAL assay is a simple and inexpensive, yet robust means to detect even low levels of endotoxins.

We operate a United States Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) licensed production facility for LAL, which adheres to the highest quality practices. Our products are taken through a series of quality testing before final release and approval by Quality Assurance (QA) and FDA.
